Second class with Year 4: Building Meanings with Collage

In our second class with Year 4 we saw lots of different ways in which collage can be used. Though an old technique, the children learned why so many artists continue using collage nowadays: it allows you to create new meanings simply by putting different images and objects together! We saw how looking at an image may be incredibly nice, but when that same image is placed in another context, we can feel quite the opposite way: very sad and angry!

After that, with a set of images of artworks the pupils had to find out which ones went together and then arrange them to make their own new version of the works. Traditional museums with classical columns got connected by very modern elevators while some people saw an amusing play and others went to the café…

And all this was in preparation for our very special third class! We can’t wait for that post!
