Year 4’s first museum visit with us: Off to The Photographers’ Gallery!

This was an incredible day! Despite the sudden hail on the way back, we had great fun and put in practice a lot of what we have been seeing in class. The children went around two fantastic exhibitions—the group show Perspectives on Collage and Laura Letinsky’s Ill Form and Void Full—where they saw several ways of using collage in art and different sources in which to find materials for works.

After that it was the children’s turn to create their own juxtapositions. And they created surprising images in their interpretations of feelings using images sourced from magazines, the Internet, books and real objects. Absolutely great work today!

Now here’s the link to The Photographers’ Gallery’s website. It’s definitely worth a visit!

  1. Thank you so much for visiting The Photographers’ Gallery. Your class were all so attentive and voiced such interesting and informed ideas around the exhibitions and their own work. I think the project you are running is such a fantastic opportunity to really develop young peoples critical thinking around photography and artwork and it certainly showed on their visit. I look forward to following the project. All the best to you and your class.
