This class was a great exercise in curating! We visited the Collection Sandretto Re Rebaudengo: A Love Meal exhibition which gave us great opportunity to think of curating in new ways. Using the same concept of the exhibition the children exercised looking at other artworks for inspiration and created analogous exhibitions of their own.
Starting from a work in the exhibition, they identified an idea or particular characteristic of the piece they liked and in groups created exhibitions stemming from them. It was wonderful to see them exercise creating works according to predetermined concepts because they found distinctive ways in which to express themselves and developed quite unique works deriving from the same ideas. On a very important note, we saw how artworks can become even more interesting after we learn about them, the artist’s intentions, the meanings behind the materials, etc.
